David Beckham had to cut short his family's $400,000 holiday in the Maldives as it won't stop raining.

The soccer star, his wife Victoria and their four children - Brooklyn, 13, Romeo, 10, Cruz, seven, and 17-month-old Harper - had been spending the festive season at the luxury One&Only Reethi Rah resort but boarded a private jet back to Male airport and jetted off to sunnier climbs on Boxing Day (26.12.12).

The family had jetted to the island group - located in the Indian Ocean - last Sunday (23.12.12), hoping to stay for 11 days, but poor weather forced them to change their plans.

A source told The Sun newspaper: 'It really is unfortunate for them, especially because it's such a beautiful place.

'But there was hardly anything for them to do except wait for the rain to stop. They arrived too late to leave in time to snatch Christmas Day somewhere sunny so they left on Wednesday.'

'They were told by staff the rain could pass any day but the forecast for the coming days didn't look good either. You can only keep four children inside without anything to do for so long, especially over Christmas.'

David had booked the family into the most expensive suite at the hotel, which costs $15,000-a-night, as well as booking three more suites at a cost of $6,000-a-night.

While there, the family were hoping to play tennis, go scuba diving and big game fishing while fashion designer Victoria enjoyed relaxing with spa treatments.
