LeAnn Rimes admits she and husband Eddie Cibrian have hurt each other.

The 'How Do I Live' singer - who recently hit back at allegations she was drinking before her duet performance with 13-year-old Carly Rose on 'The X Factor' final on Wednesday (19.12.12) - says the couple, who have now been married for a year and a half, initially struggled to get past their affair when they first got together but they have now moved on.

The 30-year-old star opened up about the beginning of their relationship - when they were both still married to their first spouses Brandi Glanville and Dean Sheremet - as she explained the lyrics of her new song 'Borrowed', saying: 'I carried that song and that title around with me for about eight months. I was afraid to write it because I knew I had to be incredibly personal...When I did, it was through a lot of tears.

'I actually was scared to put him in the song, because it does talk about how we both hurt each other. There was a moment where we did have some hurt between the two of us that we had to accept and get over and move forward.'

She also told entertainment show 'Extra', that getting past their initial struggles has 'made for an amazing relationship.'

The new song includes the lyrics: 'I wanna hold out, but I hold on, even though I know it's wrong,' she sings. 'Cause I don't want to give you back, you're the best I ever had - but you're borrowed.'

LeAnn recently revealed she felt 'pathetic' when she first started cheating with Eddie, 39, on the set of 2009 TV movie 'Northern Lights'.

The singer recently sought treatment for anxiety and stress in the aftermath of the affair.

She said of her time in rehab: 'The last four years have been very compressed with stress.'
