Chris O'Dowd slaughtered his proposal

Chris O'Dowd proposed to Dawn Porter next to an old slaughterhouse.

The 'Bridesmaids' actor popped the question to the TV presenter last December in Dawn's hometown and thought the setting was very romantic until her uncle told her where he had actually done it.

Speaking to the new issue of Marie Claire magazine, he said: 'I'd gone to stay with Dawn in Guernsey and popped the question before Boxing Day. I didn't know the place very well, so I took her to a little bay I thought was picturesque. But her uncle later told me I'd proposed next to an old slaughterhouse.

'But the whole proposal thing is so unworldly. We were both looking at each other, going, 'Are we doing this right?' It's like you're fitting into a structured system.'

The couple wed in the summer during a three-day 'WedFest'.

The 33-year-old comic star admits the nuptials were some of the happiest moments of his life and he will never forget the image of the pair's dog Potato dressed in a bow tie for his role as ring bearer.

Chris said: 'It was the best weekend ever. Potato was the ring bearer; we made him a bow tie with a pouch for the ring. When Dawn walked into the room, he went crazy.'
