The people of Tuvalu want Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to go back to the island.

The royal couple made a visit there while on a recent trip to East Asia and the South Pacific - wowing onlookers with their easy nature and laid-back style - and locals are keen for them to go back one day.

Tuvalu's governor general Sir Iakoba Italeli said: 'Their visit was a great success. The people of Tuvalu are very, very happy about hosting it, so happy to have them here.

'I think you can see how the duke and duchess felt like part of our community. I hope we will see them here again.'

The pair also made a trip to the Solomon Islands, and an official believes their visit will help convince tourists the islands are a safe place to visit.

She told Britain's HELLO! magazine: 'One reason why we were so delighted they came was the Solomons experienced ethnic tensions in 2000 and the economy and infrastructure broke down.

'The perception is that the Solomon Islands are still unsafe. The royal couple's trip has been a wonderful boost - not only to tourism, but also to the economy.

'People are inquiring about holidays now and looking at the country with new eyes.'
