Russell Brand had an Olympics performance disaster
Russell Brand's performance at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony almost ended in disaster.
A trap door malfunctioned and caught his leg during the performance in which the comic climbed aboard the roof of a bus dressed as Willy Wonka to perform The Beatles' 'I Am The Walrus' in front of a billion people.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: 'I felt all right until I ripped my trousers just before I went on, and then my foot got caught in the trap door on top of the van, so it could have gone downhill from there.'
However the star - who is now based in Los Angeles - insisted his was great and acknowledged the good things the Games has done for communities.
He said: 'It was brilliant, I really loved it and I was so happy to be a part of it.
'There's just so much positivity has come from that Olympic Games, and I hope it continues to go in the right direction.
The 37-year-old joined a host of British stars spanning the history of contemporary music for the landmark event. The programme also included sets from Liam Gallagher, The Who and The Spice Girls.
He continued: 'I've got Spice Girls mania all over again now, it's like going back to 1996 - and Stuart Pearce was even nearby too.
'I've got a massive crush on Geri Halliwell too, so everything in the world was as it should be.'
