Claire Danes says her 'Homeland' character is her 'kinky superhero alter ego'.

The 33-year-old actress - who plays bipolar disorder sufferer and CIA agent Carrie Mathison in the popular drama - is a big fan of her on-screen character, particularly because she is 'always right'.

Claire - who is expecting her first child with husband Hugh Dancy - told Britain's GQ magazine: 'She's like my kinky superhero alter ego now. Because as disturbed and troubled as she is, she's always f***ing right.

'Which is so nice because I so rarely am.'

The blonde beauty - who shot to fame as troubled teen Angela in 'My So Called Life' when she was just 15 years old - thinks she was 'too serious' in her early career and should have acted her age more.

Speaking about turning down the role of Rose in epic 1996 blockbuster 'Titanic' opposite Leonardo DiCaprio after the pair had made 'Romeo + Juliet' together, Claire explained: 'I had just made a romantic epic with Leonardo - it just seemed redundant to me.

'The problem is that I always took myself too seriously. Now I realise I should have lightened up. I was a serious kid to an absurd degree.

'I was overwhelmed with responsibility, trying to play grown up. I overdid it.'
