One Direction are to voice a cartoon series.

The British boy band - comprising Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Niall Horan - were delighted with animated show 'The Adventurous Adventures Of One Direction', and are hoping to take animator Mark Parsons' project further and getting involved themselves.

Speaking of the cartoon - which has had more than six million hits on YouTube - Liam said: 'We loved it and there might be some more cartoons with our voices in the future.'

The cartoon saw the quintet transformed into superheroes to save the world at the hands of evil Lord Faptaguise and features a Simon Cowell-alike, Psymon, as an overseeing Lord.

Their possible cartoon series comes after it was revealed the group could make up to £10 million by appearing in their own 3D film,

though it is not yet decided whether they will make a documentary, a concert movie or a comedy in which they play themselves, similar to The Monkees' hit 1960s TV show and films.

A source said: 'It's early days but it's something that their management and label are excited about.

'It may be documentary footage mixed with a concert film, or it could even be a comedy caper in the style of old Monkees films.

'All options are open, though they're unlikely to get cracking on shooting it until next year.'

The 'What Makes You Beautiful' hitmakers already have a range of dolls, have topped the album charts in 16 countries and the DVD chart in 25 markets and Nick Gatfield, the chairman and CEO of Sony Music UK has predicted their success will grow even more over the next tear.

Speaking at a Creative Industries Reception hosted by Sony Music UK and CBI, he said: 'What you might not know about One Direction is that they already represent a $50 million business - and that's a figure we expect to double next year.'
