Leslie Carter died of an overdose

By Eleanor Harley Feb 2, 2012, 21:35 GMT

Leslie Carter died at the age of 25 from an overdose on Tuesday, a police incident report confirms.

Carter had been taking medication for depression. Authorities reported that olanzapine, cyclobensaprine and alprazolam were found near Carter's body. The three different types of drugs are used to treat schizophrenia, anxiety and bipolar disorder.

Carter’s stepmother, Ginger Carter, made the 911 call on Tuesday. She explained that Carter had been unwell, complaining of feeling sick and being depressed. When Carter fell asleep in the shower, Ginger helped her into bed.

Ginger and her husband, Robert, went to check on Carter later in the afternoon and discovered that she was unconscious.

Robert attempted CPR and Ginger called the emergency services telling them that Carter was “asleep on her bed and not breathing.”

Paramedics transported Carter to Westfield Memorial Hospital. She was pronounced dead at 4.59pm.

Carter starred with her four siblings in the reality TV show House of Carters in 2006.

Aspiring singer Carter had her single Like Wow featured on the Shrek soundtrack in 2001. Her brothers Aaron and Nick are also singers. Nick was in the boy band Backstreet Boys.

Carter’s brother Aaron told US Weekly “I am with my family spending much-needed time together as we deal with this private matter.”

A family source told the magazine the family were “completely blindsided” by what happened.

“She loved her family, she loved her baby,” the source said.

“She was happy stepping away from the show business and just living happily with her family.”

Carter and her partner, Mike Ashton, got married in 2008. Their daughter, Alyssa Jane, was born on April 1st 2011.
