Oscar-winning actress Shirley MacLaine is set to star in the British television series "Downton Abbey," broadcaster ITV announced. The series is a USA/UK hit series, airing on PBS for American audiences.
The 77-year-old actress is cast as Martha Levinson, Lady Grantham's (Elizabeth McGovern) mother.
Observers and fans of the series are looking forward to epic dowager dust-ups as the Countess (two-time Oscar winner Maggie Smith) will most certainly have issues with the new American visitor.
Filming of the third series begins in February.
"Downton Abbey" is written by Oscar-winning scriptwriter Julian Fellowes, and is the story of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants at a massive country estate during the World War 1 years.
