Aretha Franklin has called off her engagement.
The 'Queen of Soul' and her intended husband, William Wilkerson, released a statement.
“Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly.
“There will be no wedding at this time.”
The couple did not want to delve into the subject any more saying “We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it.”
They finished the statement off by thanking friends for their well wishes and signed the statement “Aretha and Will.”
News broke of Franklin’s engagement at the start of January. The Respect singer was aiming for a summer wedding, hopefully June or July.
It was to be the third time down the aisle for Franklin. The 69-year-old previously married Ted White in 1961 and Glynn Turman in 1978. Franklin has four children.
The Grammy award winner returned to the stage in May 2011 after having surgery for an undisclosed ailment.
