Avril Lavigne and Brody Jenner love tweets

Avril Lavigne and Brody Jenner put a question mark on their relationship status after they took to their Twitter accounts tweeting their feelings for one another.

Sources came forward last week saying the couple had split and explaining the reasons why.

Us Weekly reported that 27-year-old Lavigne and 28-year-old Jenner were having difficulty balancing their careers and their relationship.

“They were both unhappy because he wants to have his career, she wants him to stay with her,” the source told the magazine.

The Hills reality star Jenner tweeted on Wednesday “It really upsets me to read all the FALSE!! Stories. Avril has always been there for me and is the closest person to my heart. I love her.”

Sk8er Boi singer Lavigne retweeted Jenner's tweet and added “luv u 2!!! @Brody Jenner."

A source confirmed to E! News that the couple are no longer dating and it was a “mutual decision” to end things.

Regarding the tweets, the insider said it was no big deal. Lavigne is “the kind of girl who stays in touch with her exes.”

The source explained that she has been known to tell her ex-husband, Sum 41 band member Deryck Whibley, that she loves him too.

However, a source said to Us Weekly that a reconciliation may be possible. “There is always a chance they will get back together. Brody is trying to set the ground rules and wants to be able to work. They have to find a balance.”
