Lana Del Rey 'SNL' performance

Lana Del Rey received mixed reviews for her Saturday Night Live performance on January 14th.

The singer, who managed to secure a slot on the show before her album has even been released, was criticised on Twitter.

Actress and musician Juliette Lewis took to Twitter saying “Wow watching this ‘singer’ on SNL is like watching a 12 yearold in their bedroom when theyre pretending to sing and perform #singofourtimes. (The post has since been deleted.)

However, many jumped to Del Rey’s defence saying the singer was nervous and people are not used to her singing style.

Lewis deleted her first comment from her Twitter account. She later posted “I woke up singing a @LanaDelRey song! Such great haunting melodies! Regardless of my own taste LIVE she’s a #FreshandYummy songwriter. Period.”

Idolator.com reported that the Video Games singer has been added to the South by Southwest (SXSW) 2012 line-up, which will take place in Texas in March.

Little Boots, Mike Snow, The Ting Tings, Dragonette, Imogen Heap and The Knux will join Del Rey at the festival.

The rising star is also set to appear on The Late Show With David Letterman on February 2nd and The Ellen DeGeneres Show (Airdate TBD).

Del Rey’s album, Born to Die, is due out on January 31st.
