Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon stepped out in public on Saturday night for the first time since Cannon was released from hospital after suffering ‘kidney failure.’

The couple attended the BET Honors in Washington D.C. where Carey was honoured in the entertainment category, USA Today reported.

Cannon, who was only discharged from the hospital 48-hours prior to the event, presented the award to his wife with their son Moroccan Scott by his side.

A blubbery Carey accepted the entertainment award explaining why Moroccan’s twin sister was not onstage to join them. “We were both sewn into our dresses, so she couldn’t make it out,” Carey said, explaining that their daughter Monroe was backstage.

“She’s heavy. She’s a diva like her mama,” Cannon said.

The America's Got Talent host went on to say about his wife “What most people don't get to experience is the human. To know you guys are honoring her tonight, I have to continue to honor her every day.”

31-year-old Cannon was admitted to hospital while he was on holiday in Aspen with Carey. He went through an operation for ‘mild kidney failure.’

41-year-old Carey said on Cannon’s release from the hospital “Thank you, Jesus.”

The Fantasy singer added that her husband was looking “too buff for the tux, it’s incredible.”

Cannon plans to return to his live radio show Rollin’ with Nick Cannon tomorrow.
