Ralph Fiennes non-parental urge, in the Details

Ralph Fiennes is profiled in the February issue of Details, which just posted on Details.com.

Fiennes lightened up for a brief rom-com waltz with J. Lo. But after more than two decades as an actor, the 49-year-old Brit has discovered that brooding is just more fun.

In this month’s “The Wiseguy”, the actor talks about playing villains, a few of his former female co-stars, and his role in the new Bond movie.

The February issue of DETAILS hits newsstands nationwide on January 17.  The full interview is at  Details.com

Excerpts

On indulging in rock-star behavior early in his career...

RF: “I think that what you call ‘rock-star behavior,’ lots of people have indulged in. It doesn't mean that you've let everything go to your head. You're under pressure, you play, and it gets noticed and written about. When I read about quote-unquote ‘rock-star behavior’ now, I think I was in the beginner's category.”

On playing villains...

RF: “I don't feel I'm playing villains all the time. I feel I've also played some very benign people. Voldemort in Harry Potter is kind of the high-profile villain. Of course the guy in Schindler's List is a bad guy. No way around that one.”

On if he’d like to have kids...

RF: “Not at the moment, anyway. I haven't made any firm decisions. But I can't say right now that I have a huge parental urge.”

On his role in the next Bond movie...

RF:  “I've always loved Bond. I was a bit geeky about the books when I was a teenager. Actually, a lot of the reason why I'm doing this is [director] Sam Mendes, who I worked with ages ago in the theater. He came with this proposal, which is a role in the Bond . . . [Pauses] You'll understand why I can't say more in a year's time.”

On the possibility of one day becoming Sir Ralph...

RF: “I don't know if actors should be Sirred up. I don't know. . . . I'm leaving you with an ambivalent silence.”
