Rihanna was amongst several celebrities that failed to make an appearance at the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles.

TMZ reported that 23-year-old Rihanna could not make the event as she was attending the LA Clippers- Miami Heat basketball game, which was across the street from the award ceremony.

SOS singer Rihanna was nominated for two awards and won favourite R&B artist.

Katy Perry managed to win five out of a possible seven awards at the show. The Fireworks singer was also absent from the event.

She tweeted “Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!”

27-year-old Perry has just split with her husband Russell Brand and the People’s Choice Awards would have been her first public appearance since Brand filed for divorce last month.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 won four awards but none of the cast were present to collect the awards.

The People’s Choice Awards differs from other award ceremonies as the nominees are voted on exclusively by fans.

Emma Stone picked up two awards for favourite movie actress and favourite comedic movie actress.

Demi Lovato won out against Beyonce, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Rihanna for favourite pop artist.
