People's Choice Awards 2012 - Katy Perry shines

Katy Perry was the biggest winner at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards managing to win five awards.

The Firework singer was nominated for seven awards but could not make the event, which was held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The 27-year-old posted on her Twitter account “Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!”

It was to be Perry’s first public appearance since her husband, British comedian Russell Brand, filed for divorce.

Perry won Favourite Female Artist, Favourite Tour Headliner, Favourite Song of the Year for E.T., Favourite Music Video for Last Friday Night and Favourite TV Guest star for her appearance on How I Met Your Mother.

The pop star tweeted “THANK U to every1 who voted for me for the @peopleschoice tonight. We won so many! Now I need to get more books 2 successfully display them!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 followed closely behind Perry picking up four awards.
