Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama are reported to have split up.

The couple never confirmed they were an item but a source confirmed the split to E! News.

The website reported that the age difference between the couple was the main source of the split. Disney Channel star Lovato is 19-years-old and Valderrama is 31-years-old.

However, puzzling tweets from Lovato on her Twitter account imply it may not have been the only problem in the relationship.

Lovato tweeted “Loyalty is EVERYTHING.. I’m thankful for my friends who stand by my side."

The tweet followed reports that Valderrama started hanging out with Lovato’s ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas.

E! News reported That '70s Show actor Valderrama was with Jonas at Beacher’s Madhouse on Saturday night. Lovato showed up later and Disney Channel actor Jonas left the table.

Jonas and Lovato split up just before Lovato entered a rehabilitation centre in 2010.

Lovato re-tweeted the Marilyn Monroe quote on her Twitter account “A wise girl kisses but doesn’t love, listens but doesn’t believe, and leaves before she is left.”

The Sonny with a Chance actress then tweeted “The smartest thing a woman can ever learn, is to never need a man.”
