American actress Meryl Streep will be honored by the Berlin film festival with a lifetime achievement award.
The Berlinale Honorary Golden Bear will be presented to Ms. Streep on February 14, 2012, also inviting jailed Iranian film-maker Jafar Panahi as an 'honored guest,' along with fellow film-makers Mohammad Rasoulof and Mehdi Pourmoussa, according to a press release.
Many critics are predicting a sweep of awards for Ms. Streep for her portrayal of Britain's conservative icon, Margaret Thatcher, known as the Iron Lady.
The Honorary Bear was first given to James Stewart in 1982. Other recipients include Kirk Douglas, Alain Delon, and Catherine Deneuve.
The festival montage of Ms. Streep's work will include her latest film, "The Iron Lady," along with snippets from "Kramer vs Kramer," "Sophie's Choice," "Out of Africa," and "The Bridges of Madison County."
