Mel Gibson's ex wife set to receive massive divorce settlement

The year 2011 was a very expensive one for actor Mel Gibson.

On Friday the divorce settlement between actor Mel Gibson and his estranged wife Robyn was resolved, ending 31 years of marriage.

The star of "Braveheart" will have to fork over a rumored 50% of his estimated net worth of $900 million dollars. Gibson married Robyn in Australia in 1980, and have seven children together. 

Gibson has a daughter with Oksana Grigorieva, the woman at the epicenter of his marriage bust-up.

Robyn Gibson will return to using her maiden name, Robyn Denise Moore, but other details of the divorce were kept confidential. The settlement becomes effective on January 9.

The couple separated in 2006, a bad year for Gibson. He was arrested on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu for a DUI, and later exposed as an anti-semite by a leak of records to TMZ.com from the Lost Hills Sheriffs Station in Calabasas. Robyn then sued for divorce in April 2009, citing irreconcilable differences following Gibson's relationship with Oksana Grigorieva.

Gibson recently settled a custody battle with his former girlfriend, agreeing to pay Grigorieva $750,000 and share custody of their daughter.
