‘Barbara Walters presents the 10 Most Fascinating People of 2011,’ aired on Wednesday night and the host kept her most fascinating person a secret until the last minute.
Apple visionary and co-founder, Steve Jobs earned the place of the most fascinating person of 2011.
When Steve Jobs announced his retirement in the summer, he went straight to the top of Walter’s list.
Up until now, however, each person that has received the number one slot has had to be living but Walters stuck to her choice.
On the show Walters explained “Rules were made to be broken and that’s certainly how Steve Jobs lived his life.”
Walters did not get her interview with Steve Jobs as the businessman died in October. Instead they put together a documentary of the billionaire’s life.
Jobs co-founded Apple computer with Steve Wozniak in 1976. Almost ten years later he was outed from the company. He went on to buy Pixar Animation Studios and founded computer platform development company NeXt.
In 1996, Jobs returned to Apple and the company hit great heights with the release of the Ipod. They went on to release the iPhone and later, the iPad.
Always looking ahead, Jobs was planning a new Apple headquarters. Unfortunately, he did not manage to make this vision a reality.
Jobs battled cancer for eight years until he eventually lost the fight and died in October 2011, aged only 56. He left behind a wife and three children.
Following his death, he was mourned around the world by millions.
