Alec Baldwin has apologised to the passengers of the American Airlines flight he said he was asked to leave for playing Words With Friends.
American Airlines had initially refused to comment on the situation but after Baldwin publically tweeted about the event, the company decided to issue a statement on their Facebook page.
The Airline stated that they had elected to provide the actual facts of the matter since an extremely vocal customer had publicly identified themselves as being removed from an American Airlines flight on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
They wrote that the passenger declined to turn off his cell phone, stood up (with the seat belt sign still on for departure) and took his phone into the plane’s lavatory.
The post also said that the passenger slammed the door so hard he alarmed the cockpit crew. When the cabin crew were asked to check on the situation, the passenger was extremely rude, calling them inappropriate names and using offensive language. The passenger was removed from the flight and denied boarding.
The 30 Rock star has removed his Twitter account asking fans to ‘unfollow him.’
The 53-year-old actor posted his apology on The Huffington Post blog. He apologised ‘to the other passengers onboard the American Airlines flight,’ but not to the Airline itself.
He explains in his post that he felt’ singled out’ by the Airline staff. He claimed there were many other passengers with their phones out and he was getting made an example of.
Baldwin says in his apology “September 11th was a horrific day in the airline industry, yet in the wake of that event, I believe carriers and airports have used that as an excuse to make the air travel experience as inelegant as possible.”
He finishes his blog entry saying “Again, my apology to my fellow travelers.”
