Conrad Murray appeals Jackson manslaughter verdict
Dec 3, 2011, 3:09 GMT
Los Angeles - Dr Conrad Murray has filed an appeal against his conviction for the manslaughter of Michael Jackson, the celebrity website TMZ.com reported.
Murray, who was sentenced to four years in prison this week, signed the appeal papers in jail and said he wished to represent himself because of his dire financial situation, the website said Friday. The state appeals court was expected to appoint a lawyer to represent him.
Jackson's family is asking him to pay 100 million dollars in restitution for causing the singer's death just as Jackson was about to launch a sold-out comeback series of concerts.
Jackson died at 50 in June 2009 from an overdose of the anaesthetic propofol. The judge called Murray's use of propofol to treat Jackson's insomnia 'medical madness.'
