Country singer Mindy McCready has been ordered by a judge to return her 5-year-old son to Florida after she reportedly took him from her father’s home on Tuesday night.
According to the Associated Press, McCready has been given until 5pm on Thursday to follow the judge’s order or a warrant will be issued for her arrest.
The AP also reported that the 36-year-old does not have custody of her boy, Zander, however, she does have visitation rights. McCready’s mother was awarded guardianship of the boy in 2007 after a long custody battle.
In an email sent to Access Hollywood she wrote “I am working with lawyers to try to get all this straightened out. I did not steal my child, as it would be impossible for me to kidnap what already belongs to me! There never was any missing persons report and never an Amber Alert.”
However, the AP stated that the Department of Children and Families said a missing persons report was filed in Florida on Tuesday.
McCready has a history of drug abuse and has served jail time. A sex tape was released in 2010 which McCready claimed had been stolen from her house.
