Rapper Wyclef Jean's Haiti charity was under fire yesterday amid reports that less than a third of the cash raised went to emergency efforts.
Yele Haiti raised a staggering $16 million last year - but only $5.1 million went on emergency relief efforts following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, according to records seen by the New York Post.
And more than $1 million went to a Florida firm that the Post says 'doesn't seem to exist' - but whose company head bought three upscale homes last year.
Jean's charity, which he founded in 2005 with his cousin Jerry Duplessis, was already troubled when the earthquake struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. The Post reported in 2008 that it had never filed a required tax form detailing its spending with the IRS - and allegations also surfaced that the former Fugees singer had used the charity's cash for his own benefit.
