Bee Gees singer-songwriter Robin Gibb is reportedly battling liver cancer.

The 61-year-old was diagnosed with the illness earlier this year. Gibb had been rushed to hospital with ‘severe abdominal pain’ but returned home later in the day surrounded by friends and family.

Gibb underwent emergency surgery for a blocked intestine in August 2010. His twin brother, Maurice, died of complications following the same surgical procedure in 2003.

Gibb, Maurice and their elder brother, Barry, were co-founders of the Bee Gees. The band’s hits included the songs ‘Staying Alive’ and ‘Night Fever.’

Gibb has looked frail in his recent appearances sparking speculation regarding his health. He has recently cancelled events including a meeting with Prime Minister, David Cameron. This was to promote his cover version of the Bee Gees song ‘I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You’ for the Poppy Appeal.

Gibb’s mother, Barbara, and his brother, Barry, have flown from Miami to the UK to be with Gibb and his wife, Dwina.

Dwina Murphy-Gibb, who is interested in druidry, is said to be looking into alternative treatments for her husband.

Gibb and his son, Robin-John, are currently writing The Titanic Requiem to commemorate the sinking of the Titanic almost 100 years ago.
