Bill Clinton criticizes Obama missteps in new book
Nov 5, 2011, 14:43 GMT
Washington - US President Barack Obama comes in for criticism from a predecessor, Bill Clinton, over two political missteps in a forthcoming new book, the Washington Post reported Saturday.
It said the first criticism was that the president did not raise the federal debt ceiling in the first two years of Obama's term, when the president's Democratic party supporters still had a majority in both houses of Congress.
The other was failing to devise an effective national campaign message during the midterm elections of 2010, when the Democrats suffered sharp losses, according to the Post's account of the book, which is mainly a fierce criticism of the other US party, the Republicans.
The Post said Clinton also suggested, but only obliquely, that Obama's criticism of Wall Street had been too harsh and counterproductive.
The book, Back to Work: Why We Need Smart Government for a Strong Economy, is set for publication on Tuesday. The newspaper said it had obtained an advance copy.
