“All My Children” star Susan Lucci talked truth to power in her memoir, addending her book to reveal how she felt about ABC decimating their daytime serials.
Lucci starred as Erica Kane in the long-running ABC soap, and her memoir “All My Life: A Memoir”- just released to paperback and has an updated epilogue.
The NYPost.com reported that Lucci blames ABC Daytime head Brian Frons and says, “I think our being in this position is the result of some very bad decisions by you.”
It was the removal of showrunner/creator Agnes Nixon that was the nail in the coffin, and the moving of the show from Los Angeles to New York, adding "sub-par" writers too that Lucci blamed Frons for.
Allegedly Frons told her the soap would be replaced by a "cheaper" food show production.
She writes, “An iconic show was losing out to greed ... If Brian Frons could show his bosses that he could save the network 40 percent ... he could keep his job even if the rest of us lost ours.”
“I watched Brian Frons’ decisions destroy the production of our show and the lives of people on both sides of the country.”
According to the Post report, Lucci says Frons “has what, for me, is that fatal combination of ignorance and arrogance,” adding, “I cannot fathom any network executive choosing to alienate millions of loyal viewers in these economic times.”
