"The Hills" and "Laguna Beach" star Kristin Cavallari and Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler have called off their engagement.

In a case of "He said She said", the spin war managing the "why" and the "how" details of reality TV star Kristin Cavallari and footballer Jay Cutler's demise is taking on epic proportions.

Reason for the split between Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler depends on who you read for unnamed sourced information and hearsay. Some say Kristin was dumped, some say that she did the dumping because Cutler was too cozy texting another woman and was too controlling of the party girl.

Gossip blogger Perez Hilton claims that Haley Higgins came between the engaged couple: "Cutler watched Cavallari strut down the catwalk in a Mercedes Benz Fashion week event, while he was texting Haley Higgins AT THE SAME TIME. She went through his phone later and couldn't believe he was texting her during her big show. When Cavallari found out that Cutler was texting with her, she freaked out. Cutler explained that she is just a friend, but Cavallari started crying and turning it into a big deal, and it ruined their entire vacation. Cutler got cold feet. Called it off."

The other Gossip Queen Bee Ted Casablanca of E! says Cutler was controlling and had too many restrictions on Cavallari: "He was beyond controlling and didn't really like Kristin going out," a pal of the reality-TV star told Ted. "When she did go out, he called all the time and demanded to know exactly where she was going and who she was with."

However, venerable tabloid People says Cavallari was the dumped, not the dumper: A source tells PEOPLE. "She got dumped," and another source tells the magazine. "She's absolutely devastated. She can't believe this is happening."
