Patrick Dempsey continues his reign of McDreamy steamy on smallscreen drama Grey’s Anatomy, but every once and awhile, he looks forward to stepping into the shoes of someone else besides the nice guy next door.
Previously, Dempsey told the Italian edition of Vanity Fair that he won’t return to Grey’s Anatomy after next season. “It will be my last,” Dempsey said. “I don’t know what will happen with the other characters, but for me, it’s done.”
He then backtracked a bit. Just like he did on any future plans with the Transformers franchise in a new interview with Parade.
Enter Transformers: Dark of the Moon (in theaters now), in which Dempsey plays rich, handsome, and possibly dangerous car collector Dylan.
Dempsey, 45, was interviewed by PARADE about his deep conversations with Shia LaBeouf, the cool way he snagged the role, and more. Here are some highlights:
What was it like working with Shia?
“I think he’s becoming a man. He’s had to learn about himself in a very public way, and fame is very much a double-edged sword. There’s a lot of good that comes with it and there’s a lot of negative that comes with it, and I think he’s really aware of his strengths and his weaknesses and what he wants to do to improve. We had some great talks about those things, and I really like him for who he was and what he’s struggling to do and what he wants to do and who he’s been and who he’s becoming.”
How he got the Transformers gig:
“I had met Michael [Bay, director] at a Ferrari event. We were talking about cars and I was asking him what he had in the movie. I knew that there was a character that was possibly right for me so I brought it up — and this was in the midst of talking to some former F1 drivers and other drivers that I drive with. It was the perfect place to meet for this character.”
Will you be back for the fourth film?
“Highly unlikely. But I don’t know…”
