Jun 13, 2011, 19:00 GMT
New York - Clarence Clemons, long-time saxophone player for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, suffered a stroke and was in serious condition, US media reported Monday.
Clemons, 69, suffered the stroke late Sunday at his home in Florida. Rolling Stone magazine confirmed that he was 'seriously ill' and was being treated in hospital.
Clemons, known among colleagues and fans as 'Big Man,' gave many Springsteeen hits including Born to Run and Jungleland their characteristic sound. He belongs to the hard core of the band which has accompanied the rock star on tour and in studio albums for almost four decades.
Rolling Stone reported Monday that Clemens had suffered many health problems over the past decade and had required surgery, 'mostly involving his hips, knees and back.'
