The Jolie-Pitt Foundation is gifting $500,000 to aid recovery efforts in Joplin, Missouri, after a tornado leveled the town last month, according to The Kansas City Star.
"With the devastating loss of 30 percent of the city, the Joplin community faces great challenges ahead," said Brad Pitt. "Having spent much of my childhood there, I know these people to be hardworking, humble and especially resilient."
Angelina Jolie added: "Our hearts go out to the families in Joplin who have lost so much."
Joplin lost over 150 people. And now a lethal fungus stirred up by the twister is affecting the victims who survived the twisters..
Pitt was raised in Springfield, Mo., attending the University of Missouri.
In 2008, the couple gave millions to Global Health ($2 million), Human Rights Watch ($1 million), Brad’s Make it Right Foundation ($1 million) according to their fundation's website. Also receiving funds were the Armed Services YMCA of the U.S($500,000), $50,000 to the Springfield, Missouri Public Schools and millions to projects in Cambodia.
