Lindsay Lohan's new plan: Open rehab centre

Nov 9, 2010, 11:30 GMT

Los Angeles - Actress Lindsay Lohan, whose drug and alcohol problems have derailed her career in recent years, wants to open her own treatment centre after her current court-ordered rehab stint, her mother said Monday.

Lohan, 24, has gained an unusual degree of expertise on her planned business, having undergone at least five stints in rehab facilities over the last three years.

Her latest, in the world-famous Betty Ford Centre, began last month after a random drug test found cocaine and methamphetamine in her system. Due to be released on January 2, Lohan plans to use her celebrity to help educate other young people battling addiction issues, her mother, Dina Lohan, told NBC Television.

The report said that Lohan has been emailing her friends from Betty Ford to apologize for her past behaviour.

'It is life-changing - we take it one day at a time,' Dina Lohan said of the Betty Ford Centre, describing her daughter as 'happy, relaxed, just a different person.'

'Addiction is difficult. I don't know, I don't have a crystal ball,' Lohan said, when asked about her daughter's plans.

She said that the actress wants to get back to movie making but is also motivated to open her own rehab centre.

'She wants to start her own facilities, help other children,' Lohan said. 'She is so public that I think we can only be positive and look to the future to help other families.'
