DeGeneres' spouse Portia De Rossi files to change name

Los Angeles - Almost two years after she married comedian Ellen DeGeneres, actress Portia DeRossi filed a petition Monday to take on the name of her same-sex spouse.
If the Los Angeles court approves the filing at a September hearing, she will become known as Portia Lee James DeGeneres, or, as some have quipped, Mrs DeGeneres.
The celebrity couple are the highest profile married lesbians in the US at a time when the issue of same-sex marriage is in the spotlight in California.
DeRossi, 37 and DeGeneres, 52, married at their Beverly Hills estate on August 16, 2008, while same-sex marriages were legal in California, just months before California voters passed a ban on the practice.
The US District Court ruled the ban unconstitutional last week, and the case could go to the Supreme Court.
