Phil Spector's wife thinks her pop album is the equal of her husband's legendary work with the The Beatles and Tina Turner.
Jailed record producer Phil Spector has announced the June 8 debut of his wife's first album, which he produced and arranged. 'Out of My Chelle' is Rachelle Spector's first CD, with ten songs described as 'upbeat, mainstream adult pop, with hints of R&B, rock and dance'.
The album will be available online June 8 and in stores on July 20.
'I trusted her with my life and songs and production,' Spector says of
his wife. 'She's fantastic on this album.'
Spector, 70, was convicted in 2009 of the shooting death - Splash News
Rachelle Spector, 30, has just launched her debut album Out of My Chelle, produced by her husband before he was jailed for 19 years for the death of actress Lana Clarkson.
And despite getting some horrific reviews - with the New York Post calling it 'a pop drivel vanity project' - Rachelle insists the album puts her up there with legends like The Ronettes, The Righteous Brothers and The Beatles, whom her husband worked with before.
She insists Spector, 70, would not have put his name to the project if “he did not think that it could stand up to the legends he’s worked with'.
And she insisted: “I talked to my husband yesterday, and he’s more excited about this project than he was about The Beatles or Tina Turner. He is so proud, and he really believes in me.”
But she admits that it may not be so easy getting the public - not to mention the recording industry - to feel the same.
“It’s a battle in this industry. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping that people will take me more seriously,' she said.
