Los Angeles - Pop star Britney Spears snatched the Twitter crown from movie actor Aston Kutcher, as the number of internet users signed up to follow her messages on the micro-blogging website reached nearly 5 million.
As of late Monday, Spears, 28, had 4.95 million registered followers to Kutcher's 4.94 million.
'WOW!!!!! #1 on Twitter! Thank you!' Spears said in a tweet, the system's 140-character broadcasts.
Kutcher, 32, asked through Twitter how he felt, responded, 'I don't care.'
In April 2009 the actor challenged and beat the news feed of broadcaster CNN to reach a million Twitter followers first.
Kutcher is married to actress Demi Moore, 47, also a keen tweeter with 2.72 million followers.
Twitter allows users to send short messages to the internet where they are publicly available. Users can also subscribe to, or follow, someone else, and receive all the messages sent by that person.
