New York - Christie's is planning to auction a glittering list of celebrity items in honour of Earth Day on 22 April, according to a statement Thursday.
Christie's Green Auction, A Bid To Save The Earth, will feature activities such as a tour of Central Park with Candice Bergen, a day on the set with actor Hugh Jackman, a cruise with David Rockefeller Jr and a private lunch and falconry lesson from Robert F Kennedy Jr.
Among the other offerings: Cameron Diaz will take one person to the premiere of the Shrek movie, Sigourney Weaver will hold a private screening of Avatar, David Duchovny will take someone out to lunch and fashion designer Vera Wang is offering a 10,000-dollar shopping spree.
Artists such as Damien Hirst, Maya Lin, Dale Chihuly and David LaChapelle have also contributed works. Other participants from the film world include Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, Tobey Maguire, Salma Hayek, Alec Baldwin and Brooke Shields.
The event will benefit environmental organizations such as Oceana, Conservation International, Central Park Conservancy and Natural Resource Defence Council, and is being sponsored by companies like Deutsche Bank, Target and NBC Universal.
'We are bringing together corporations, celebrities, non-profits and the arts community, all setting aside their individual agendas to go green,' said Toby Usnik, head of international communications for Christie's. 'It's a total cross-section of participants all committed to honouring Earth Day and supporting the environmental non-profits.'
