Los Angeles - The philandering husband of Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock has checked into rehab in a bid to save his marriage to the Hollywood darling, news reports said Wednesday.

The reports came a day after it was reported that Bullock had initiated divorce proceedings to end her union with Jesse James, a 40-year-old custom motorcycle builder who had his own reality TV show.

James' infidelity was exposed earlier in March when a tattoo model came forward to detail their affair, just days after Bullock had thanked him profusely while accepting her Oscar for her role in the hit movie The Blind Side.

Since then, three other women have come forward to detail their affairs with James, with some reports claiming that he cheated on his wife with as many as 11 women.

A representative for James told People.com that he had checked himself into a rehab facility Friday.

'Jesse checked himself into a treatment facility to deal with personal issues,' the spokesperson said. 'He realized that this time was crucial to help himself, help his family, and help save his marriage.'

Celebrity website TMZ.com reported that James was heading to Sierra Tucson in Arizona, a clinic that specializes in drug, alcohol and sex addiction.
