Charlie Sheen's sons doing well

Mar 10, 2010, 16:30 GMT

Charlie Sheen's babies are "thriving" while their parents are in rehab.

The actor - whose stint in a clinic for alleged alcohol and cocaine problems is expected to end this week - has left 11-month-old twins Bob and Max in the care of nannies while he seeks help in a residential facility and wife Brooke Mueller is being treated at home for alcoholism and crack cocaine abuse.

A source said: "The boys are thriving and are very well taken care of by a very small, trusted group of family and close confidantes."

According to friends of the couple, they are determined to put their problems behind them for the sake of the youngsters.

The source added to website Radar Online: "Bob and Max are two very happy toddlers, and even though their parents are battling addiction, both Brooke and Charlie love the boys very much, and that is one of the motivating factors for them. They want to be the best parents possible to the boys. Brooke and Charlie have taken steps to make sure the boys are safe, and secure, at all times."

Shortly before he entered rehab, Charlie was visited by child protection officers following his arrest on Christmas Day (25.12.09).

The authorities apparently dropped by as a "routine" visit to monitor the boys' wellbeing as part of an ongoing investigation by the Pitkin County Department of Social Services.

The 'Two and a Half Men' actor's spokesperson confirmed: "It was a routine procedural investigation."

The 44-year-old actor was taken into custody during the festive period over domestic violence allegations, and was charged with a felony and two misdemeanours.
