Paul Bettany's British moan
Mar 4, 2010, 6:01 GMT
Paul Bettany hates Los Angeles because there are too many British people there.
The London-born actor - who raises two children,12-year-old Kai and Stellan, six, with wife Jennifer Connelly - is happy that the family now live in New York because he hated encountering his fellow countrymen who don't understand US humour.
He said: "I think it's a fallacy about the English sense of humour. Los Angeles is full of English people that say Americans have no sense of irony. Actually, Americans have a lot of irony, and you just haven't noticed. That's the one thing I loathed about Los Angeles - the f***ing Brits.
"I avoid the ex-pat community. You know what's so depressing? Going to pubs in America to watch football. It's not the same and I don't want to pretend it's the same."
While the 38-year-old star settled quickly into life in New York, he admits he occasionally pines for his home country.
He added to Britain's FHM magazine: "I got used to New York quickly, but getting used to not going home took longer. I missed specific things like mates and certain pubs."
