Ryan O'Neal wants son for documentary
Feb 23, 2010, 12:20 GMT
Redmond O'Neal's battle with drug addiction may be featured in a new documentary about his late mother Farrah Fawcett.
The actor's father Ryan O'Neal is making a new film about the aftermath of his long-term partner's death from cancer last June and plans to make his son - who earlier this month was moved from prison to a court ordered residential treatment facility in Pasadena - one of the main focuses of the programme.
In the letter Ryan has written outlining his plans for the show he said: "We plan to focus on three main areas of her legacy: her art - namely her films and her sculptures - her inspirational battle with cancer; and the light of her life, our son Redmond, who is now fighting to reclaim himself in honour of his mother."
In his letter - obtained by website RadarOnline.com - Ryan also said the documentary will include Farrah's voice from "an original, never-aired 2005 interview with never-before-seen footage from our private collection of home movies".
Ryan and Redmond were arrested together on drugs charges in 2008 after the drug Crystal Meth was found at Ryan's home. Although he initially denied any involvement, Ryan later pleaded guilty to drug possession and was sentenced to 18 months drug counselling. Ryan and Redmond have spent many years estranged and have a rocky relationship, though Redmond has recently pledged to turn his life around.
He wrote in a letter from prison: "My plan is to go back with a new attitude and leave my old ideas behind. I am committed to doing this thing."
