Noel Gallagher returns

Feb 1, 2010, 10:24 GMT

Noel Gallagher has announced his first concerts after quitting Oasis.

The songwriter - who left the super-group last August after having a huge bust-up with his brother Liam - has agreed to perform at two of the Teenage Cancer Trust's annual charity concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall next month.

This will be the fifth time Noel has featured in the trust's yearly events, which have been some of the "best nights" he's ever had performing in the UK.

Noel said: "Ten years ago I got a call from Roger Daltrey asking me to join him for the first ever concert for the charity.

"Since then I've been honoured to support this amazing charity. I've had some of the best nights I've ever had on a UK stage."

Patron of the charity Who frontman Roger Daltrey is thrilled to have Noel confirmed for the March dates.

He said: "It's a blinder. I'm over the moon. It will be Noel's only shows this year, so those nights will be special."

The 42-year-old guitarist will join Arctic Monkeys, The Specials, The Who, Them Crooked Vultures, Suede and boy band JLS for the series of concerts.

Roger is delighted to have secured such a diverse line-up.

He said: "Kids have to start somewhere and JLS are for young people. Music snobs might turn their noses up but there's no place for them in the business."

The charity - which aims to provide specialist teenage cancer units at UK hospitals - has hosted shows for the past decade to raise funds and awareness of the cause.

Roger added: "When The Who first got together in 2000 to raise money for this brilliant charity, I had no idea we'd achieve so much from these shows. In the last ten years we've raised over £8.7 million, helping Teenage Cancer Trust to open nine more specialist cancer units for young people across the UK."

Electronic band Depeche Mode will open this year's event with a special show on February 17, to celebrate the ten-year anniversary.

The Who will close the concerts on March 30 with a performance of 'Quadrophenia'.

The 2010 Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall line-up:

February 17 - Depeche Mode

March 22 - Them Crooked Vultures

March 23 - Jimmy Carr, Noel Fielding and Rod Gilbert

March 24 - Suede

March 25 - Noel Gallagher

March 26 - Noel Gallagher

March 27 - Arctic Monkeys

March 28 - JLS

March 29 - The Specials

March 30 - The Who
