John Travolta kept strong by beliefs
Jan 29, 2010, 10:03 GMT
John Travolta's faith in Scientology helped him deal with the death of his son Jett.
The 'Face/Off' star revealed he and his family - wife Kelly Preston and daughter Ella, nine - have received a great deal of support from the Church of Scientology in the last year following the tragic loss of his eldest son, who suffered a seizure on holiday in the Bahamas in January 2009 aged just 16.
Travolta believes it his beliefs which have enabled him to return to acting.
He said: "We work hard every day with our church on healing. And Kelly and I and Ella have all been working very hard and they've been helping us.
"Once you get yourself stable, then you're able to reach out again, and I think this whole year every day we've been working on stabilising ourselves and it's been successful so far."
Travolta, 55, is one of the most high-profile followers of Scientology - the bizarre faith started by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, which counts a number of US actors, musicians and entertainers amongst its ranks - and in November it was reported the family had been undergoing daily counselling to help them cope.
Earlier this week, Travolta - a keen pilot - flew a jetliner carrying relief supplies, doctors and ministers from the Church of Scientology to Haiti.
The actor landed in Port-au-Prince - the disaster stricken capital of the Caribbean state, where millions of people have been displaced as the result of two massive earthquakes earlier this month - and believed to be working to bring further aid to Haiti.
