Family planner Hugh Grant

Jan 21, 2010, 13:04 GMT

Hugh Grant thinks people should have children early in their life.

The 49-year-old actor - who has never been married or had kids - thinks it is a good idea to settle down and start a family at a younger age before they get cynical about domestic life.

He said: "It's not just men who don't want to have children immediately. A lot of women don't want to be young mothers. I think that's wrong though. I have a lot of relatives in Scotland, where people live like they did in the 50s. My female cousins were all married by the time they were 19 or 20. I don't think that's a bad thing - just to do it and get on with it before you get old and cynical and start considering marriage a bad invention."

Hugh - who previously dated Elizabeth Hurley for 13 years and Jemima Khan for three years - says it's hard to live with a woman and thinks relationships could work better if couples were prepared to live in separate homes.

He quipped to Germany's OK! magazine: "Maybe we should reconsider the concept of men and women permanently living under the same roof. I think that kind of lifestyle is very difficult."
