Sheryl Crow fights for horses

Jan 11, 2010, 10:35 GMT

Sheryl Crow is concerned about a new proposal to relocate wild horses in America.

The 'All I Wanna Do' singer is taking part in a charity campaign to stop the US government from moving the horses from plains in the West of the country to the Midwest and East.

Sheryl, 47, said: "I think there has to be a better way than taking them away from their native lands.

"I feel so passionate about the issue because wild horses are one of the last remaining ties to the land as it was and our history in America."

The Grammy Award winner first came to know the plight of the horses when she adopted one animal named Smokey in Colorado soon after splitting with fiance Lance Armstrong.

The US government claims it has to move the horses as the ranges in Nevada cannot support the vast number of them currently grazing.

Sheryl added: "My main concern is that horse numbers are not dwindled down to the point at which they could become extinct."

Sheryl is a vocal charity campaigner, previously speaking out about the war in Iraq and the effects of global warming.
