Best-selling author and comedian Artie Lange was hospitalized over the weekend after an attempted suicide, as the police confirmed the event to the Jersey Journal on Thursday.

Shock jock Howard Stern shared with his listeners his sadness over his radio show sidekick's ordeal, saying Thursday night that when he heard the news, it was "too much to bear."
"I was surprised and glad that Artie's situation had been kept quiet.... I'm angry about it, I'm sad about it. I don't know what to think," Stern said. "I'm all over the place emotionally."
Lange is a quick wit and often times shocks with his behavior. There is an opening on "America's Got Talent," with David Hasselhoff out for the count. We would love to see someone as edgy as Lange take over those reins.
The New York Post published an interview with Lange from early December, posted online today.
Lange had sustained six "hesitation wounds" and three deep plunges in his attempt on his life. Lange is a fierce raw talent and we hope he gets some help and gets back on the air soon.
