Gatorade Tiger Focus no more
By April MacIntyre Dec 8, 2009, 20:20 GMT
A lucrative sponsorship obtained by golfer Tiger Woods has ended.
The Wall Street Journal reports that PepsiCo Inc. killed the Gatorade drink named after Tiger Woods from the brand.
But, they claim it is over sales and a branding do-over, not because of Woods' alleged affairs.
Gatorade Tiger Focus is part of an "overhaul of the Gatorade brand," according to the WSJ.
"We decided several months ago to discontinue Gatorade Tiger Focus along with some other products to make room for our planned series of innovative products in 2010," Gatorade spokeswoman Jennifer Schmit said to the WSJ.
Bad timing for Tiger.
"The decision had been in the works for some months, as Gatorade developed new products," said John Sicher, Beverage Digest's editor and publisher.
The WSJ reports that "Gatorade Tiger Focus was the first Gatorade subline to be named after an athlete."
