Academy Award winner Kate Winslet is one of very few celebrities who seem genuine, self-effacing and downright funny. We never understood the constant sniping by the UK press at her.

A true natural beauty, Winslet has always been forthright about body image and has never starved herself to be the muse of a demented fashion designer. Winslet has revealed to the press she was "delighted" to win a payout of about $40,000 from British newspaper The Daily Mail that claimed she lied about her exercise regime.
"I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy," the 33-year-old mother of two said in a statement, that was published by People magazine.
When the Daily Mail ran the copy, which her lawyers claimed was "misleading the public," she initiated the legal action.
The piece was titled, "Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the World's most irritating actress?"
The story was published just weeks before the Academy Award ceremonies that saw Winslet take the win for Best Actress in the drama, "The Reader."
"I am delighted that the Mail have apologized for making false allegations about me," Winslet said in the published statement. "I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime, and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise."
