British singer Leona Lewis was punched in the side of the head at a central London bookstore, Waterstones, in Piccadilly.
Lewis was happily signing books for fans when an unidentified man in the queue approached her and suddenly attacked without any warning.
Lewis was there to promote her autobiography "Dreams".
Lewis won the 2006 British TV talent show "The X Factor" and has toured the world signing the hit song, ""Bleeding Love," written by Jesse McCartney.
"We can confirm that there was an incident at the Leona Lewis signing this afternoon," a Waterstone's spokesman said. "The event was immediately stopped by the security guards present and the police are talking to the individual concerned."
Police arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of assault and is being questioned at a central London police station.
According to the BBC, a shaken Lewis left the event immediately and has not spoken to the media since the incident.
