The news of President Barack Obama's advisor and "green jobs" czar Van Jones calling Republicans "assholes" hit several days ago, and the damning video of Jones keeps piling up as his racist rant surfaced regarding how black kids would never commit a Colombine-styled school shooting, that only white kids would do this is adding to the chatter that Jones' appointment needs a second look.
The White House has yet to comment on Jones' varied offensive remarks.
Van Jones, an administration official specializing in environmentally friendly "green jobs," did issue a statement of apology on Thursday for the "assholes" comment. According to CNN, when asked whether President Barack Obama still had confidence in him, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said only that Jones "continues to work in the administration."
Also making hay with Van Jones is the blustery righty TV political chatter Glenn Beck, who is dining on Jones' name appearing on a petition connected to the events surrounding the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
That 2004 petition had asked for congressional hearings and other investigations into whether high-level government officers had allowed the Sept. 11 attacks to occur. Jones says that he did not agree with the petition's stand and that "it certainly does not reflect my views, now or ever."
Gibbs added that Obama does not agree with Jones' signing of a petition to investigate possible federal involvement in 9/11.
Right-wing websites are braying for Jones to resign. Among the charges being leveled at Jones:
In 2004 he signed an online petition calling for an investigation into whether 9/11 was instigated by the federal government.
In February, Jones called Republicans "assholes" in discussing how Democrats had to push their agenda harder. "And Barack Obama is not an asshole," Jones said. "So, now, I will say this: I can be an asshole, and some of us who are not Barack Hussein Obama, are going to have to start getting a little bit uppity."
Jones attacked "white polluters" and "white environmentalists" for "essentially steering poison into the people of color communities.
Jones obsessing about race. He started an organization "Color of Change", that reflects his obsessions with race.
Jones publicly expressed solidarity with the Arab and Muslims Americans as well as what he called victims of U.S. imperialism.
Jones is accused of being a communist based on past associations and his own words.
Jones calling President Bush a crackhead in an ebonics joke delivered about Bush's energy policies.
At the IONS Conversations at the Edge, San Fransisco, December 2nd, 2005, the video that is currently haunting Mr. Jones is the most damning.
"You've never seen a Columbine done by a black child. Never. They always say, 'We can't believe it happened here. We can't believe it's these suburban white kids.' It's only them. Now, a black kid might shoot another black kid. He's not going to shoot up the whole school."
