Obamas make Vanity Fair best-dressed list

Washington - Barack and Michelle Obama both made it onto Vanity Fair magazine's 2009 International Best-Dressed List, again proving their status as a world power couple. French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy made the list for the second year in a row. Well-dressed women joining the first ladies on this year's list included actress Penelope Cruz and singer Alicia Keys. Obama joins the stylish ranks of actor Brad Pitt, current James Bond portrayer Daniel Craig and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. While Vanity Fair has given its stamp of approval, the power couple have not always been the darlings of fashion critics. When the first lady wore a sweater to Buckingham Palace to meet Queen Elizabeth in the spring, designer Oscar de la Renta chided: 'You don't show up at Buckingham Palace ... in a sweater.' When Obama wore loose jeans to throw out the baseball at the All- Star game in St Louis recently, barbs of 'mom jeans!' rained down on his head.
